Ume river is a big river and has its source from the mountain region around Tärnaby and largely follows the route E12 towards the coast. It passes Storuman, Lycksele and Vannes before it empties into the sea at Umeå. The river is enlarged and has a side river of interest to the angler and it is popular Vindeln river.

They are working to improve access and enhance fish conservation in the river. Annual releases of about 25.000 sea trout smolts and about 90.000 salmon smolt stage for good fishing. Of the exposed sea trout are caught as much as 40% on sports gear. Fishing is best in spring, from April to May when it caught a lot of trout.

For a successful trout fishing is the distance from the power plant discharge canal and about 500 meters downstream is recommended.
