Kage River, which lies about 1 mil north of Skellefteå is one of Västerbotten's smaller rivers. It is approximately 7 mil long, runs from Stavaträsket down by Kage Valley to eventually culminate in the sea by Kage.
According to old stories from back in the past, it was a fantastic salmon fishing in the river, but it was built ponds and walking paths to the salmon spawning grounds disappeared and with it also the salmon. But today after active work is all rambling obstacles away and the fish can once again walk freely down by the river.

A small river that Kage river has its advantages. A lot of shiny brown trout rises in mid-May and the fisheries for trout kelts entering an intensive phase. At the end of May and first week in June, when it is established fish here and there along the river. Electric fishing of fish density are made annually and the results show that Kage river has a lot of young salmon. Water samples that are regularly taken shows that the river waters are of very good quality.
This is apparent even in the bottom fauna surveys showing large amounts of bottom-dwelling insects, including freshwater amphipod Gammarus. This is essential for small fish survival and a sure sign of the river's well being.
