Namsen is a big, wide river that holds salmon for about 5 mil up to fiskumfossen at Harran. The river gets it's headwaters from the large river Namsen in the area of Borga mountains and flows down through Namdalen flush along the road E6, tributary Gröndal river flow together a couple mil before the city Grong and biälven Sandöla converge in Grong, to fold the river of the southwest, passing Overhalla before it flows into Namsos fjord in Namsos.

Namsen is divided into 28 fishing zones. In the lower zone the river is wide and slow flowing, the environment is a little of the arable landscape and have been fishing a lot with the boat, known as harling. There are local boatman for hire for those who want to try this form of fishing. The upper part of Namsen runs through the mountains and the river here is narrower and more battle that creates good conditions for fly fishing. Some well-known fishing spots in Namsen is Gartland, Moumen, Vibsta, Holandslöya and Seem. In Namsen is storlax, the largest salmon caught weighed 31 kg. The last three years there have been 100 tons of salmon on the pole, making Namsen to one of Norway's best salmon rivers. Fishing from shore is conducted primarily at Öysletta, Saeleggshytta, and Fiskumfossen, at Fiskumfossen also Namsen laxakvarium.

Namsen has are a couple of smaller rivers Sandöla and Björ, Sandöla flows into the Namsen at Grong and has salmons for about 2 mil from there. Sandöla is slowy flowing to it's character with some rapids, there are two fish ladders among other things. The most famous fishing ground in the area is Tömmeråsfossen. Björ flows into Namsen at Ranem in Overhalla and has salmon for about 1.9 km from there.

The river is about 20 meters wide and is considered a fine fly-fishing river. Björa has its own salmon strain that are short wide and thick. Salmons that weights 30 kg has been taken here. Every year people catches salmons around 20 kg. Björa is dependent on good water flow to provide good fishing and the water is quite dark in nature. Highway 17 goes along the river. There is also Söråa that floats down to Björa also this part contains salmon and sea trout.
