About

Vestre Jakobselv is about 40 km long and has its source on the Varanger peninsula's mountainous expanses. Winds its way from there through a variation-rich and beautiful mountain range on its way to the coast. On some stretches of river flows in mountain paths, where the mountain edges plunges down to the river. To then run through more flat and open valleys, which at times is beautifully covered with wood after the river edges. The river eventually flows into the Varanger Fjord, about 18 km west of Vadso.

Vestre Jakobselv is a delicious salmon river where it winds its way in the north-eastern Norway. River change constant character of calm stretches to really wild rapids. Most fishing and where it is most easily available is the river's lower parts, which has several delicious rapids and fine stream . On the river's 1st mil is 3st rapids and several fine stream parties that are good with salmon. 1a rapids come after about 2km and is about 5m high, below stream stops the salmon up and there are several nice places, where salmon are. After a few 100m of new fishing only sections the 2nd rapids, which is about 3m high. There after, a long section of about 4km before 3rd rapids which is about 4.5 m high. There are plenty of places for salmon and this is often here the river's large salmon caught. There are also artic char and sea trout. In the reported catch statistics, it is almost entirely salmon.

More about fishing

The beauty of Vestre Jakobselv is that it is not divided into private waters. When you have purchased fishing license, you can freely wander and try different river sections, unless otherwise indicated. In the case of catch statistics, which consists mostly of salmon, does not mean that the sea trout and artic char stocks is directly weak. It probably depends more on the fisherman's focus and the willingness to report small catches. But clearly is that salmon fishing is a well-so good and the environment is verging on myth, with its northern atmosphere.
