About
Göta River is one of Sweden's major rivers and flows from Lake Vänern at Vanersborg past trollhättan, Lilla Edet, Ale and Kungälv and further down to finally run out into the Kattegat Sea in Central Gothenburg. A distance of about 8 mil. In Kungälv divides the river and the other called Nordre River and flows by Ytterby and out of Nordre River fjord. Götaälv have six locks and operated by large ships to and from Lake Vänern ports.
The water is also used as raw water for the municipality of Gothenburg and the intake is located at Lärjeholm. There also opens Lärjeån out into river Götaälv.
Fishing
Lilla Edet salmon fishing in the river run below the power station dam at a distance of about 700m. Here it has been fished salmon from time immemorial. Salmon Fishing Club has arranged a fine salmon fishing, with cabins and boat rentals. Since its start 1983, the curve for caught salmon has risen sharply. From about 200 salmon per year, until today 700-1000 salmon per year. The club goal is to become one of Swedens best salmon fishing waters.
Land and Boat fishing occurs mainly at a kilometer distance downstream from the power station in Lilla Edet. Here were caught during the year 2000 over 2000 salmon. Fishing is here at its best during the summer and fall.

Göta Älv tributaries Lärjeån give annually some salmon. Where the yellow card which includes sale of angling shops in Gothenburg or in Sportfiskarna tel 031-40 17 40 Grönån in Älvängen providing certain salmon and its tributary Forsån is also salmon. Fishing licenses is at Statoil in Älvängen.
