Sävarån is a typical forest river. Parts of the river's route and surrounding area is wilderness character. It is completely unregulated, but floating and a series of weirs have previously affected fish life negatively. From 2011 the municipality of Umeå start implementing restoration work in Sävarån on a 3 mil long distance, from the mouth into the sea. It creates great future promise for fishing in the river, 2015, the work to be done.
There are some salmon in the river, but work is going on to restore a more robust salmon and sea trout fishing. At an optimal smolt production is estimated that nearly 3 tons of salmon could be angling caught every year.

Plenty of room when the attractive fishing spot is long, which means that you usually do not have the congestion of other anglers.

The river is easily accessible from the road that joins the river. The proximity to Umeå could watercourse attractive to a larger group of anglers.
Sävarån is a popular paddle stage and there is an established rental business.
