Wilderness River Pite River originates up in Arjeplog and runs through the wilderness down to Piteå. The river has a series of impressive waterfalls of which the most famous being Grand Rapids with a drop of 60 m in the final 2 kilometers, which is also a major tourist attraction with its thundering waterfalls.
Pite river is relatively easily accessible by roads alongside the river on a long distance upstream of Big Rapids. Downstream of Grand Rapids is the river easily accessible by road on both sides.

Fishing

Fishing has a long tradition in the valley, but the salmon stock is currently weak. Most fishing for salmon and sea trout run from the mouth and up to Grand Rapids. Work with biotope conservation and environmental remediation after floating era and the redemption of commercial fishing is under way to improve salmon and sea trout populations.
