Vefsna in Nordland is about 160 km long. It has its source from the majority side rivers, where a couple are from Swedish storfjället southwest of Tärnaby. It flows into Norge south of Hattfjelldal and then flows on down to Trofors where the river turns in a northwesterly direction and follow the E6 to Mo lake where it flows into the sea in Vefsna fjord. Belonged formerly one of Norway's better salmon rivers and had years of catches around 20 tonnes. But have been hit by Gyro infection and years of catches is now around 2-3 tons. But trout fishing has been a sharp rise and it has in recent years been one of Norway's best sea trout river.

Vefsna are salmon bearing approximately 12.5 mil including side rivers, Svenningsdalselva and Austervefsna. There are a couple of stretches that are considered Vefsnas best and it is mainly between Kvalfors Fors and Forsjordio located about 15 km from the outlet to the sea. There was a salmon ladder is already 1871 and there are Stjernebekken-Stimoholmen a 5 km long fine stretch where Hestskoöra is extra fine and good for fly fishing.

Det finns många forsar i Vefsna och man använder gärna båt för att fiska och färdas mellan de olika sträckorna mellan forsarna. Från mynningen upp till Kvalfors en sträcka på ca 15 km faller älven bara ca 5 m och påverkas här av tidvattnet och är lugnflytande. Over the Kvalfors and up to Forsjordfossen a distance of about 2 km river starts to become more battle and create fine streams. Over the Forsjordfossen you can reach by boat, up to the faster streams, below Turmofallen about 23 km from the outlet to the sea. Around 31 km from the outlet to the sea is located Laksfors and there are great caves and streams for salmon fishing. Is above the rapids pretty calm and still waters, until shortly before Fellingfors about 41 km from the outlet to the sea.
