About
Målselva is located in Troms county, at Målselv and has its source from Rostavattnet at the Swedish border and from Dividalen. Runs through a beautiful and diverse landscapes, tributaries flow together at Skjold, then after another few mil to run out into Målselvsfjorden. With side creeks Divielva and Kirkeselva is Målselva salmon live about 15 mil. The river is warned that the National Salmon river and also Målselvs fjord. Målselva is a very good salmon river and is ranked among the top 10 in Norway. Målselvs rapids are big and grand, about 600 meters long and with a drop height of 25 m and a water flow which can reach 750 cubic meters per second, when you hear the river's noise all around. Approximately 90.000 people per year visit the falls, which is a popular tourist attraction. At rapids is also a built salmon ladder with windows, so you can see the salmon swimming up the rapids.

Målselva with one of Norway's hottest salmon pools. This is the stretch below Målselvs rapids, which is red hot. Here, caught about 40% of the river's total salmon catch, and of these about 60% on the fly. This stretch is of course difficult to get a fishing license, but there are plenty of other nice pools. from 15 July and the season is much salmon in the upper reaches of the river. There you can find many delicious pools with a good salmon fishing. For many it is the side the river Divielva attract the most. Around 10 mil from the sea, it is almost big salmon in every hole and there is great stream parties, that are perfect for fly fishing. But despite these characteristics, the upper stretches little known and sparsely visited. There, you will not crowded, among the river's delicious salmon pools and some mention, is among the hottest in Norway. Over Målselvs rapids, it is also a very good fishing for char, trout and grayling.
The river lower part, from the sea and to the outlet of Barduelva in Målselva a distance of about 3 mil. Is the difference in height about 2.5 m, which means that the river here is very lung fluid and wide. Great places are few and most fishing is done by boat. No hot salmon fishing distances, but sea trout and artic char fishing is there very good and some large salmon are taken early in the season. The forest grows here almost to the shore.

It has an automatic fish counter in Målselvs rapids since 1991. It provides a unique opportunity to calculate the salmon stocks in the river. In 1995 it passed about 1200 salmon ladder, but in recent years it has passed between 2000-4000 salmon. The river is developed and there are a total of 4 power plants throughout the river system, along with side river Bardu.
