About

Torneälv is the northernmost salmon river of Sweden. It has its springs in Abisko and Torneträsk among many others close to the Norwegian border. It`s a really large river with many big tributarys that also contains salmons. These tributaries are Lainio, Muonio and Könkömä. The southern part of Torneälven defines the border between Sweden and Finland.

The river is totally unexploited. There are a great number of Salmon caught in the river and quite often they weigh around 20 kg. The catch statistics are unfortunately incomplete and therefore it´s difficult to find realistic numbers of caught fishes.

There are good spots for fishing along the whole river. The Salmon swim far up the river to spawn. The whole river area is available for sportfishing but most of the salmons are caught in the southern part of the river, where boat fishing is very common.

Where the Torneälv and the Lainoälv are separated, the salmon seems to prefer the Lainoälv. The southern parts of the Lainoälv are very accessible and are maybe the best spots for salmon-fly fishing in the whole area. Its tributaries Muonio and Könkärnä are also easy to reach as there are roads along its length.
